Zeta: Serving the Net community for over 10 years.

Nick Andrew and his business Zeta Internet have been involved with internet access in Australia since the beginning. Here is a brief history of Zeta.

15 February 1985 Zeta RTRS (Remote TRS-80) online with 1 x 300bps modem.
September 1985 Zeta Joins FidoNet - The first non-IBM system to do so, and the 23rd (?) FidoNet node in Australia.
1986 Nick Andrew starts the ACSgate project at UTS (then NSWIT).

Zeta provides Internet E-Mail and Usenet news to its members through the ACSgate project, which also functioned as a general interconnection between the two networks.

The ACSgate project was the second known connection between FidoNet and other networks, and the first in Australia.

1988 First Zeta PC/AT 10MHz running Minix.
July 1990 First Zeta UNIX Box for dialin access: kralizec running SunOS 4.0 on a Sun 3/50.
September 1990 Zeta starts charging at $1 per hour.

Completely running on UNIX now.

7th June 1991 Zeta registers the domain names "zeta.org.au" and "fido.oz.au".
1993 First Linux Box: Godzilla running Linux 0.99.12 on a 386/40
Mosiac released.
May 1994 First Zeta direct Internet Connection at 9600bps with 3 dialins.
October 1995 Zeta renamed to Kralizec and becomes a full-time business.
1996 Nick Andrew receives a dedication from The Australian Internet Access Report.
April 1997 New POP opened in the City.

Link upgraded to 1.5Mbits/sec.

January 1998 Kralizec renamed back to Zeta.
